| In
order to legally work in the US Virgin Islands as crew,
you need a C1/D visa. Thanks to our friends Clive and
Frances on S/Y Semper Fi here are the instructions for
obtaining this visa in Barbados. If you wish to do so
from your home country, please contact your Consulate.
DO NOT ACCEPT the determination that all you need a B-1/B-2
visa. It will not work in the Virgin Islands!
Non-Immigrant Visa Application Process (C1/D)
You will need a computer that has Adobe Reader! If
you do not, Flagship has the forms in the office.
1. Go online and download the forms:
A. Application form (ds-156) http://evisaforms.state.gov
Fill this in and submit it online BEFORE printing it
out.
Submitting it online will mean your form prints with
a bar code already issued.
Without a bar code, you will not even get in the door!
Fill it in completely. You only get one chance to file
this on line.
B. Supplementary form (ds-157) http://travel.state.gov
Filling this in beforehand means you get to jump ahead
of the poor people who are trying to fill this in while
standing in line.
You do not have to submit this form online.
2. Contract or letter of employment
3. Valid passport plus any old passports with previous
visas
4. One photograph, 2” by 2” – on
a WHITE background
5. USD100
Once you have everything together, go to http.//210.177.41/barbados
to make your appointment. PRINT out the confirmation
page and make sure you take it with you.
You will be pushed to the back of the line if you do
not have proof that you made an appointment! Your appointment
time is not exact – there will be many people
with the same time as you, and you may not get seen
at that time, but you will be seen! Monday thru Wednesday
are the busiest days.
Although the offices only open at 8am, people do begin
lining up at 4am! It is not necessary to get there that
early! If you have all the necessary forms you will
be placed ahead of anyone who does not.
The process is reasonably efficient – and the
visas are generally issued the same day.
(We arrived at 7am; had an appointment for 8am; were
interviewed at 10am and told to come back after an hour
and a half to collect the visa but ended up waiting
over 3 hours.)
If you have any questions, don’t try to phone!
They don’t answer it! We got answers via e-mail
very quickly – consularbridge2@state.gov
